Eagle River Report

April 4, 2021

FLOW: 92.0 cfs (Avon Water Treatment Plant)

WATER CONDITIONS: Clear…ish

FOOD SOURCES PRESENT: Midges, BWO, Beatis, Stone Flies

THE LOW DOWN:  Everything seems to be on the rise!  Air temps, water temps, and water levels.  This is creating great conditions for bug and fish activity.  Fish are moving into faster water and actively feeding.  Getting a heavy nymph rig into the top of runs to get down quickly, and stay down, is producing well.  We are also seeing sporadic hatches of BWOs and Midges throughout the day, so keep an eye out in the tail outs for rising fish.

Appropriate Patterns

DRIES: Para Adams 18-22, Stacker BWO 18-22, Griffith Gnat 18-22

NYMPHS:  Hare’s Ear 14-16, Copper John 14-18, Pheasant Tail 14-18, Jiggy JJ Beatis 18, RS2 20-24, WD-40 20-24, Black Beauty 20-24, JuJu Beatis, Trailing Shuck Midge 20-22

STREAMERS: Slump Buster 6-8, Wooley Bugger 4-10, Double Thin Mint 4-8

HINTS: With the rising water levels will “dirty” the water a bit.  Now we can use heavier tippet and larger bugs.  Heavier tippet helps with us getting the fish in quickly.  Larger lead bugs help grab attention of the fish with all the other stuff floating down the river.
